The West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) has announced that Calhoun County Schools has been awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Center Math Supplemental grant in the amount of $20,000. The purpose of the supplement grant is to give programs the opportunity to implement or expand ideas that creatively address academic success while integrating math instruction. Calhoun Middle/High School will be using this grant to provide expand our instruction in the Energy and Power program. We will be addressing the math skills needed to be successful in the very fast growing career fields relating to energy and power creation and distribution. Calhoun Middle/High School will work with students in grades 7-12, host a summer camp and an after school program during the 18-19 school year.
The West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) is pleased to announce that Calhoun County Schools has been awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) Literacy Supplemental grant application in at the amount of $18,576. The supplemental grant will allow Calhoun County Schools to continue to offer additional support to students in literacy during the summer months and after school during the 18-19 school year. The literacy program will focus on building and maintaining student literacy in a fun, creative environment.
The two grants, totaling $38,576.00, will allow the school system to provide additional instruction to students at critical developmental stages of their learning. The grants will also allow us to expose students to learning during field trips and excursions. This will allow for the building of background knowledge for our younger students. The older students will visit Pierpont Community College and a working power plant to observe first-hand the application of math skills in a work environment.
