Reminder to parents of afterschool students. All afterschool students will be riding the bus to CMHS for the Pancakes and Pajama community event this evening. If you normally pick up your student from afterschool, you will need to do so at CMHS this evening. All other afterschool students will still be riding the evening bus home after the activity from CMHS.

During each workshop, you will engage in meaningful conversations that acknowledge the caregivers' interest, strengths, and goals by aligning them with the topic of discussion. This will be followed by information sharing, practical activities, and reflection.

Make sure to stop by CMHS next Tuesday December 19th from 4pm to 6pm for an evening of activities, food, music, prizes and more!🎄🎅

4th Grade had the highest attendance percentage for the month of November and got to enjoy some free time.

Students at PHE enjoyed picking out winter coats yesterday. The Kindergarten girls had a blast and loved their new coats.

It's that time of year again when the weather is getting cold and the holidays are approaching we are looking for donations of gloves, scarves, and hats for our Giving Tree at Pleasant Hill Elementary. The students at Pleasant Hill enjoy picking out their favorite pair of gloves, hat, or scarf from the tree. Any donations of items to be placed on the Giving Tree for students at Pleasant Hill would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Bus 23 will not run tomorrow November 29th. Bus 29 will pick up those students who ride bus 23. Students who live on Munday Road will need to be at the end of the road by 7:00am.

PHE Afterschool Students will be going to the CMHS for Wild Wednesday tomorrow, November 29th.

Our Early Learning Empowerment Group is having another parent workshop session this Wednesday evening at the Calhoun FRN starting at 4:30. Everyone with children ages 3 to 5 are encouraged to take advantage of this workshop.

Dear Parents/Guardians: This letter is to inform you of an increased number of students reporting gastrointestinal illness at Pleasant Hill Elementary. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), typical presentations of a gastrointestinal illness include vomiting and diarrhea and can be transmitted easily by: • Having direct contact with an infected person • Sharing food or eating utensils with an infected person • Consuming contaminated food or water • Touching contaminated surfaces then putting unwashed hands in your mouth In a collective effort to stop the spread of illness, we are requesting that you: • Know the signs of gastrointestinal illness: Look for any symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, fever (over 100.4º F), or stomach cramps. • Keep sick children at home: Students should stay home for at least 48 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea without medications such as acetaminophen (Tylenol), ibuprofen (Advil), or Imodium. Consider seeking medical care if your child’s illness is not improving on its own. • Properly report your child’s absence to the school: When reporting the absence, be sure to advise what your child’s symptoms are so the school can keep track of the potential spread of the illness. • Cleaning: Use bleach when cleaning. Bleach is the best chemical to kill these germs. Consider cleaning high traffic areas such as countertops, doorknobs, and tables. When mixing a bleach solution for cleaning it should be diluted, 1-part bleach to 10 parts water. Apply the diluted bleach mixture and allow the bleach to dry for four minutes. Clothes soiled with vomit or diarrhea should also be cleaned with bleach or color safe bleach. • Teach your child to wash their hands thoroughly: Hand washing with soap and water is the best way to clean hands. Encourage your child to wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. (Tip: Sing the Happy Birthday Song TWICE.) Our school works closely with the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources’ Division of Infectious Disease Epidemiology to monitor and stop outbreaks of illness. Afterschool Update! Wild Wednesday at the Calhoun Middle High School is canceled for this evening. Pleasant Hill after school students will remain at Pleasant Hill this evening.

As we go into the winter months and cold/flu season, we want to send a reminder about the availability of MHHS School Based Health. Our providers are available on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at PHE. They can also see students at are brought to CMHS by parents on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Please send a note, call the school or email calhounsbh@mhhs.healthcare to have your student seen by our provider.
