Save the Children has an opportunity for children and families in Calhoun County! We offer weekly Parent Child Groups throughout the county. The focus of these groups will be Kindergarten Readiness Skills for children 3 to 5 years old, but all younger siblings are also welcomed to attend. Snacks will also be provided! One lucky parent/caregiver will win a small door prize.
During the weekly Parent Child Groups, we will be exploring the following Language, Literacy and Math Kindergarten Readiness skill areas: Knowing about the alphabet, books and print; talking and listening; understanding words and sounds; numbers, counting, patterns, sorting and classification; comparison, measurement and geometry. These are all critical skills that your child needs in order to be prepared for Preschool and Kindergarten. I look forward to meeting you and helping prepare your child for school success!
These groups are great for those who are entering Preschool for the 2023-2024 school year. They will help them become familiar with the school, classroom and staff.

The 2022-23 school year will end on Friday, May 26. We will be dismissing at noon on Friday, May 26th. Summer Camps will be from June 12-June 30, and July 17-August 4. Please join us for an exciting summer of camps.

Here are few things our Kindergarten Readiness Groups have been working on the last month. We worked on recognizing our name and how to put the letters in the right order, we celebrated Mother's Day with a tea party, we measured and made our own bubbles and our own shape wands, we had a Book Hunt, and we enjoyed reading together.
These groups continue to run through the summer months also. Come out to one of the following locations and times.
Open to all Calhoun famlies with child 3 to 5 years of age but all younger kids are welcome.

Reminder: student devices (computer, charger and possible bookbag) need to be turned in before school is out. Please see the attached picture or information below for the schedule. Students will be called by AA to the library to return equipment.

COMMENCEMENT ETIQUETTE
To ensure that all participants enjoy the commencement ceremony, we ask that you do the following:
• Do not reserve seats.
• Please refrain from speaking once the ceremony begins.
• Please stay seated until the graduates have exited the gym.
• Please remove hats during the ceremony.
• Please silence all electronic devices.
• Once seated, please stay seated unless it is an emergency.
• Please do not block any aisle or entrance before, during or after the ceremony.
• Please dress appropriately. Graduation is an important event to the Class of 2023!
Wear your best!
• Administration will remain in the gym after the ceremony to reenact the
presentation of student diplomas for pictures.
The student speakers deserve our respect. For many or all of these students, this is their first public speaking event. Let us try to make them comfortable and be respectful at all times. The Class of 2023 appreciates your support in all of the above.

Good morning, due to a mechanical issue bus 11 is running approx. 38 min. behind. Bus 23 will be picking up bus 11 students this morning. Thank you.
Good morning, You may hear students talking about the our new alert system today.
Calhoun County School is in the final stages of testing the system, provided by the COPS Grant, in our schools. This system will allow quicker response times for schools and first responders in case of an emergency. Evaluation of the system is starting, to ensure all the settings and various announcements are working.

Career Exploration Camp at Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center
UPDATE: One lane is open on Route 16, from the accident near Vaughn Road. Busses are able to pass. We are expecting some delays, but not as much as originally planned.
Due to an accident on Route 16 towards Pleasant Hill near Vaughn Road, busses will be delayed. We are routing buses through alternate routes to get them home. We expect at least a 15 to 20 minute delay.

Calhoun County Schools received a $20,000 grant from the Sisters Health Foundation to provide tobacco prevention/intervention and mental health awareness & wellness: Train Your Brain; Help, Hope, Live in Calhoun for students through a brokered partnership with Westbrook, Minnie Hamilton Health Systems, Communities in Schools, 21st Century Learning and the Brother Up Foundation. We appreciate the additional support to continue our focus of help by creating a framework for connectedness and improvement in the lives of our students and families.
Calhoun County Schools and the West Virginia Department of Education is honored to announce the 2023 Golden Horseshoe winners for Calhoun County.
Cooper Morris & Orion Swearingen
Since 1931, students have been honored as knights of the Golden Horseshoe having demonstrated exceptional knowledge of West Virginia history on the state administered exam. This year, 226 winners will join the ranks of WV citizens who have won this prestigious award. Your county winners will have an opportunity to be recognized at our Golden Horseshoe ceremony on June 13, 2023 at the West Virginia Culture Center in Charleston, WV.
