Due to a main water break Arnoldsburg Elementary School will not have school on Wednesday, September 14. Teachers and aides will report to Calhoun Middle High School. Cooks and custodians will report to the board office. We will update as soon as we have more information.
The Calhoun County Schools' Advisory Team (CAT) will be held on October 7, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Board Office. Calhoun County ASPIRE afterschool program will start at Arnoldsburg, Pleasant Hill, and Calhoun Middle/High School on Monday, September 12. Buses will run along the main roads leaving Calhoun Middle/High School at 5:45. If you would like to sign your child up, please contact your child's school for enrollment information.

Early Steps to School Success Kindergarten Readiness Program
Come join us for our weekly Parent-Child group on Friday at Pleasant Hill Elementary School from 9:30-10:30 a.m., and Arnoldburg Elementary School from 2:00-3:00 p.m.
We will be talking about how to help your child learn at home with Fall counting.
Come see and join us for all the fun parent-child activities we offer. We have story time, guided lessons, and Brain-Building tips for everyday moments.
You should join us if:
• Your child is 3—5 years old
• If you are interested in preparing your child for school!
• Interested in introducing your child to peers and school settings.
• Help make the transition into the school setting more comfortable.

Please add Academy Day 2022 to your calendar. Last year, approx. 16 students from various WV counties (Berkeley Co., Cabell Co., Greenbrier Co., Harrison Co., Jefferson Co., Kanawha Co., Mercer Co., Mingo Co., Monongalia Co., Preston Co., Putnam Co., etc.) accepted appointments to attend U.S. service academies and prep schools! One key to a student’s success (besides academic, physical, and extracurricular achievements) is being informed about potential opportunities at these educational institutions and starting the information gathering process as early as possible. An appointment to a U.S. Service Academy is a fully funded education opportunity valued from $240,000 to more than $400,000.
Academy Day 2022 will be held for any and all students, parents and school officials interested in learning more about U.S. service academies (Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines, Military/West Point, Naval).
We will also have representatives from local ROTC programs on hand to discuss ROTC scholarship opportunities and a representative from the Dept. of Defense’s Medical Examination Review Board will join us on Saturday, September 24, 2022 and Sunday, September 25, 2022.
Academy Day is an opportunity for students, parents, and school officials to ask questions and obtain information regarding the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy as well as the ROTC scholarship process. No Registration Required.
Students who want to attend a prestigious U.S. Service Academy are generally more successful when they begin planning courses and extracurricular activities early in their academic career. Please attend.
Representatives will be ready to answer questions regarding the educational, physical and recreational requirements to attend these prestigious institutions or obtain an ROTC scholarship as well as address the nomination process. I have attached a flyer regarding Academy Day 2022.

We are excited to announce that Kelly Paving will be at Pleasant Hill School on Wednesday, August 31, to finish paving the parking lot. They will start after the students arrive and hopefully end before the students are released. Staff will need to park at Pleasant Hill Church on Wednesday. I know this is a minor inconvenience, but it will be worth it once the paving is completed. Thank you for your understanding. If any student needs to be picked up during the day Wednesday, the parents will need to call the school so someone can walk the student to the road. Thanks,

This year, the goal that our Communities in Schools (CIS) team is working on for each school is to improve attendance. Check out these 10 facts about school attendance. Attendance is a pivotal component of our students education. Let’s work together to ensure our students attend regularly.
Calhoun County Schools would like to thank Michael Fitzwater, Richard Parsons, JP Posey, Rusty Richards, Jim Helmick, and Brent Anderson for their hard work on the new sidewalk at PHE. They worked in the hot and humid weather to get the new sidewalk completed. The next step is the parking lot paving that will take place soon. Please continue to be patient with us as we finish up this project. Mother nature has not been kind with all the rain.

Each week we have a fun parent-child activity. This week we will be talking about cooperative play and playing board games to help understand the importance of sharing and taking turns. Our take home book this week will be "Peter's Chair".
