Good Evening,

Thanks,
Student Interest Day at Calhoun Middle-High School, Friday, March 25, 2022. Student interest in a topic holds so much power. When a topic connects to what students like to do, engagement deepens as they willingly spend time thinking, dialoging, and creating ideas in meaningful ways. Making learning contextual to real-world experiences is a key learning technique with differentiating for student interests. Factoring for student interests works well with instructional planning based on readiness and learning profiles. Readiness combined with interest leads to students doing work at a respectable complexity level with the familiarity of a topic that they relate to.
Parent-Teacher Conferences at Calhoun Middle-High School, Thursday, March 24, 2022 from 4PM-7PM.

West Virginia Nursing Scholarship Program
The West Virginia Nursing Scholarship Program application cycle for the 2022-2023 academic year will be open from April 15th through June 1st this year. This program provides scholarships to LPN, RN, LPN teaching certificate, and masters or doctoral nursing students. In exchange for agreeing to complete a service obligation in West Virginia, participants receive scholarship funds for their nursing programs. Your eligibility requirements for the program depend on what kind of nursing program you are enrolled within. Please see the details below to determine if you might be eligible to apply and learn more details about how the program works –
LPN and RN (including RN-bridge programs such as LPN-ASN, LPN-BSN), ASN-BSN, BA/BS – BSN, etc)
• Eligibility Requirements
o Be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited WV Nursing Program
o Be in good academic standing
o Have a cumulative and nursing GPA of at least the threshold established by the WVCFN.
GPA threshold is established after the application cycle closes. During the 2021-2022 academic year, the GPA was 3.0.
Nursing GPA includes only nursing coursework into its calculation. Cumulative GPA includes both nursing and pre/corequisite coursework.
o Meet a nursing midpoint date.
Nursing midpoint date is the date in which you have completed at least 50% of the nursing curriculum needed to obtain your nursing degree.
Pre-requisite or co-requisite coursework does not apply towards the purposes of calculating nursing midpoint date.
As long as you reach your nursing midpoint date during the academic year, you may be eligible for one or more awards.
• Awards
o Award amounts vary each year based on the availability of funds. The Governor’s Office has supplemented additional funds towards the program this year, so award amounts should be close to statutory maximums allowed for in W.Va. state code:
LPNs - $3,000 per year
RNs - $7,500 per year
o LPN awards are distributed once per award year once the student has reached their nursing midpoint date.
o RN awards are distributed on a per-semester basis once a student has reached their nursing midpoint date.
• Service Obligations
o LPNs must complete a one year service obligation for each year an award is received. The position must have a minimum requirement of an LPN license, be full-time, and must be located in WV.
o RNs must complete a two year service obligation for each year an award is received. The position must have a minimum requirement of an RN license, be full-time, and must be located in WV.
o Full-time work can be completed through more than one form of employment as long as the total work each week is 36 hours or more.
o All service obligations must be verified using employment verification forms found here: https://wvcenterfornursing.org/employment-verification-guide/
o If you cannot complete and verify the service obligation, you must repay the award back plus interest.
